Volunteer FAQ
No. You don’t need to have been a Scout or have previous Scouting experience. We provide the training and resources you need to be successful. Bring your interests, skills, and a desire to make a difference for young people.
It depends on the role. Opportunities range from helping at a single event to serving regularly with a local pack, troop, crew, or post. We can help you find an opportunity that fits your schedule.
Yes. Training requirements vary by position. All registered adult volunteers must complete required Youth Protection and position-specific training to help provide a safe, quality Scouting experience.
Most ongoing volunteer positions require registration with Scouting America, including an adult application and required screening. Some short-term or event volunteer opportunities may have different requirements.
Absolutely! Many of our volunteers do not have a child currently enrolled in Scouting. Community members, alumni, business leaders, retirees, and others are all welcome to share their talents and experience.
Merit Badge Counselors share their knowledge and experience with Scouts in specific subject areas. Counselors must register in the Merit Badge Counselor position, complete required training, and be approved by the council.
